The Myth in Advertising Is Really No Myth at All
We’ve all seen the advertisements in newspapers, magazines, flyers and coupon books. Air conditioning services $14. Let’s get real for a moment shall we. Here are just a few costs that an air conditioning company will incur to get a technician to your home.
Truck payment, truck insurance, workers comp insurance, liability insurance, unemployment insurance, truck maintenance, technician pay, fuel, licensing fees, advertising costs, uniform costs, dispatcher costs, shop lease, utility bills, accounting costs, shop management costs, tools, office supplies, bank fees, materials, And I suppose the owner of the company would like to make a little money after incurring all of the expenses. The list goes on and on and on.
Getting back to the $14 advertised service and or advertised price for a new central air conditioning system installed for an impossibly low price. The expenses listed above will be paid or the contractor will go out of business, it’s as simple as that. With that in mind, what do you think the tech is going to do when he gets there? The answer is obvious.
Look, all contractors use what are called “loss leaders” which give the service company an opportunity to introduce additional services to their customers. The problem is, some contractors have taken this to a level which has become quite ridiculous and could be considered flat out false advertising. Some of these repairs or services come with conditions or exclusions which will prevent them from having to actually complete the advertised services unless you agree to additional charges which are not advertised. Clearly these companies should be avoided. The bottom line is if the price seems like it’s too good to be true than it probably is. Always be sure to read the fine print. Nothing wrong with a great deal, just make sure the deal is real.
For a great deal and fantastic prices on air conditioning services, repairs or replacements.
