Selecting Air Conditioning Systems
When selecting a brand of air conditioning system there are many options to choose from. Many brands have been around for decades or longer. Lennox has been making HVAC equipment for more than 100 years. Trane and Carrier are reputable brands that have also been on the market for many many years. Rheem/Ruud came on the scene a bit later but they too have stood the test of time and are quality units. Air conditioning experts have their favorites for various reasons. In my opinion they are all great. What separates a bad system, from a good system, from a great system usually comes down to who designs and installs the system. When I say “designs” I mean that the system has been properly sized to meet the cooling demand. The installation is the most critical consideration. A good installation can mean the difference between saving money on your utility bill and not saving anything. Duct sizing and sealing are key elements that need to be addressed before new equipment is installed.
It’s time to consider replacing your old air conditioning system or heat pump with a new one if your system is more than 8 years old, is inefficient or is in poor condition. This may occur before 8 years depending on the environment and performance of proper maintenance over the years.
