Programmable Thermostat
Do you have a programmable thermostat? Programmable thermostats have been in existence for many decades and have evolved significantly over the years.
The purpose of a programmable thermostat is quite simple, it saves you money and provides increased comfort by raising or lowering the temperature in your home or office based on the customized program that you set.
If your home is unoccupied during the day, it does not make sense to run the air conditioning system when nobody is home to enjoy it. Often times people forget to adjust the thermostat before they go to work. Consequently, the air conditioning system runs all day long during the peak cooling hours while nobody is home. This obviously is a waste of money.
In South Florida we have very high humidity so it is not a good idea to turn the air conditioning off completely while away at work. It is a good idea however to set the thermostat up a few degrees so as to have it cycle and control the humidity while not wasting resources over cooling an unoccupied home. Additionally a programmable thermostat can be set to lower the thermostat back down to a comfortable temperature before you return. That way you don’t walk into a hot home after a hard days work.
There are many programmable thermostats available today. There are basic thermostats, touch screen thermostats and even thermostats that you can control from your computer or smart phone.
Lennox has a new thermostat called the iComfort which works wirelessly. You can control the temperature in your home from anywhere you have wireless service including your cell phone.
